Scroll down for details about the 2007 and 2008 postage-rate hikes

I. 2007's Major Postage Hike Affected All Newsletter Types
How the postage increase affected your newsletter format—
Flats: Larger than 6⅛" x 11½"
- Self-mailing newsletters and
newsletters mailed in envelopes.
Postage for these types of newsletters likely increased significantly (in some cases up to 75%), depending on "zip code saturation"—how widely spread your mailing addresses are. The more concentrated your mailing list is in a geographical area, the less drastic the increase was.
Letter size: Smaller than 6⅛" x 11½"
- Self-mailing newsletters and
newsletters mailed in envelopes (#10 or 6" x 9" envelopes, for example).
Postage for these types of newsletters increased only by a small rate change, the extent again depending on the "zip code saturation" of
your mailing list.
2008 Update: Postage rates changed again May 12, but this time the effects are minimal, actually dropping a bit for nonprofit standard rates.
